Below is a drawing of the view of Baltimore and Fells Point from the top of Federal Hill in the year 1752. If one looks closely one can see that the artist has depicted a group of Indians sitting on top of Federal hill looking out over the harbor. The city has changed a great deal since then.

Fells Point would be off to the right in this drawing.
One of the first places that I have begun my search for sources for this Blog is on Google Books. I have been able to find some great information. One of the book that I am currently working through is a very helpful piece of work by John Thomas Scharf entitled, History of Baltimore City and County
According to this book in 1726 when the proposed Baltimoretown was being planned the only permanent resident was a man by the name John Flemming. However, Fells Point at the same time was being surveyed by Richard Gist under the direction of Edward Fell. During Gist survey he noted that the point already had; three houses, a mill, Tobacco houses, and an orchard. It is also interesting that when Baltimoretown was finally divided into 64 lots, John Flemming would no longer be a resident.

Doing a quick online search I found this great portrait of Col. Edward Fell From the Maryland Historical Society. I believe that his title came from his service in the Forces of Maryland during the French and Indian War/ Seven Years War However, I have not been able to confirm that so do not quote me, yet.

Colonel Edward Fell (1737 - 1766)
Oil on Canvas Attributed to John Hesselius (1728 - 1778)
ca. 1764
